The AIA calendar contains two major events each year. Firstly, usually in April, is the Ironbridge Weekend. This is often billed as the Affiliated Societies' weekend but is open to all our members and not just those from affiliated societies. The weekend is usually devoted to a particular topic or theme and engenders much useful discussion and debate. It is a particularly informal and sociable event, with meals being taken in local hostelries, and it is also noted for the Saturday night entertainment. In August or early September each year the annual conference takes place in a different venue throughout the UK. We look at local industrial archaeology and history through lectures and visits. Whilst the main conference is over a weekend, there are also continuing events into the following week for those wishing to spend longer in the area. During the weekend the Association AGM takes place and the Annual Rolt Memorial Lecture is delivered. The Conference is preceded by the annual seminar and the theme is usually one of a national nature. Bursaries are available for students in certain circumstances. Click here for more information.
